UCLA Softball star, NCAA Champion
Bubba Nickles, who will be a senior on the UCLA Softball team for the 2019-2020 season, finished her junior campaign with an NCAA Championship, helping the Bruins post a 5-0 record at the 2019 Women's College World Series. Nickles was named to the All-WCWS Tournament Team after hitting .350 (7-for-20) in Oklahoma City with two home runs, three runs batted in and a team-best seven runs scored. She became the first Bruin ever to hit a home run to lead off the Women's College World Series against Minnesota, adding another homer in WCWS Finals Game 2 versus Oklahoma. During the entire NCAA Tournament, Nickles had a team-best five doubles and tied for the team lead with four homers and 13 runs scored, adding a .341 batting average and 14 RBI.
Nickles was a Softball America First Team All-American and an NFCA Second Team All-American, leading the Bruins for the season with 18 home runs, 72 runs batted in and a .714 slugging, while ranking second with a .390 batting average and 66 runs scored. Nickles was also named First Team NFCA All-West Region and All-Pac-12 Conference First Team, earning a pair of Pac-12 Player of the Week honors in 2019. Off the field, Nickles was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention Team.
Nickles was also an NFCA All-Region First Team and All-Pac-12 Second Team honoree in 2018 and an All-Pac-12 Second Team and All-Pac-12 Freshman Team selection in 2017. Away from UCLA, Nickles spent four summers with USA Softball. She was a member of the U.S. Junior Women's National Team in 2015 and the USA Elite Team in 2016 before setting numerous records in 2017 as a member of the U.S. JWNT. At the '17 WBSC Junior Women's World Championship, Nickles set tournament records for homers (6) and RBI (30), recording 20 hits in 29 at-bats for a .690 batting average. She drove in runs in all nine games, including six in the gold-medal contest against Japan. Nickles again played with the Red, White and Blue in the summer of 2018.
