Dr. Brooks is a Clinical Neuropsychologist specializing in concussion in sports. She maintains a private practice, Head to Head Consultants in Gladstone, New Jersey. Dr. Brooks was an Associate Professor of Neurology at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (now Rutgers Medical School) in New Brunswick, New Jersey for 14 years prior to establishing Head to Head Consultants. She was instrumental in developing a statewide grant program for the initiation of computerized concussion baseline testing at the high school level and provided testimony in support of the New Jersey Concussion Law. Dr. Brooks is a member of the Medical Advisory Board for the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association and was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Advisory Council for Traumatic Brain Injury and the Traumatic Brain Injury Fund. Dr. Brooks has authored articles and book chapters on prevention of concussion in sports and sex and gender issues and concussion. Her work in the area of concussions in female athletes has been featured in ESPN Magazine, ESPN "Outside the Lines," Good Morning America and CNN. Collaboration with Drs. Mary Jo Kane and Nicole LaVoi at the ESPN 2010 retreat culminated in a conference at the University of Minnesota Tucker Center for Research on Girls and Women in Sport and a PBS special entitled "Concussions in Female Athletes: The Untold Story" featured on the Big Ten Network in 2012. Dr. Brooks was named one of the "Top Women Who Will Change the Way Sports are Played" by ESPN Magazine in 2012. Dr. Brooks has served as a consultant in the area of concussion at the high school, college and professional sports levels.
