Erica McKinley is Chief Operating Officer for the National Basketball Players Association, the union for more than 400 professional basketball players in the NBA. As COO, Erica manages the day-to-day operations of the NBPA, whose mandate is to protect the best interests of its players, both on and off the court. Before joining the NBPA, Erica was Associate General Counsel of Global Security Aviation/Travel & Ethics for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., where she conducted business ethics, fraud, and FCPA investigations. Erica is a highly regarded strategist whose other areas of expertise include remediating lapses in internal controls and investigating crimes against the business. Erica first started her legal career some 17 years ago in Washington, D.C., where she practiced complex commercial litigation and white collar criminal defense at Arnold & Porter LLP and Akin Gump. Erica also served as Chief of Litigation for the District of Columbia Office of the Attorney General and General Counsel for the D.C. Department of Human Services. Erica was a judicial law clerk for the Honorable E. Grady Jolly for the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. She earned her Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from the University of Mississippi Law School.
