Lisa Stokes serves as director, booking and talent production and development in ESPN’s studio production, overseeing the booking department and its role in securing guests for all ESPN television shows. This includes visitors to ESPN who go through the “Bristol Car Wash,” the somewhat tongue-in-cheek term for the often-hectic schedule sports and entertainment celebrities undertake in appearing on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN Radio shows.
In her role, Stokes manages a team of 10 bookers and production assistants on a daily basis, securing guests for 35 ESPN television shows. This includes urgent bookings based on breaking news. They work with PR firms, agents, collegiate SIDs and professional teams.
In addition, she works with current ESPN commentators in preparation for their on-air performances and plays a role in scouting potential new ESPN talent, analysts and guests. She takes the lead in booking the College GameDay celebrity picker each weekend during the football season. She also manages the talent office relationship and ESPN and ABC sales, marketing, social and promotions teams. In addition, Stokes is the lead booker for ABC/Disney and Synergy groups for the Walt Disney Company.
Stokes joined ESPN in 2008 as a talent producer and has advanced through the booking department to senior producer, manager, and, since March 2016, as director.
Stokes came to ESPN from the Women’s Sports Foundation where she served as a public relations coordinator, managing logistics of events such as press conferences, satellite media tours and professional and Olympic athlete appearances. She also wrote stories for and edited publications and worked with media on increasing the foundation’s profile.
Stokes graduated summa cum laude from Boston’s Suffolk University with a bachelor of science in communications and journalism. She was a four-year player on the women’s basketball team, serving as captain her senior year.
